Bio:
Professor Radek Zbořil is a Distinguished Scientist and Scientific Director at CATRIN, Palacký University Olomouc, and a group leader at VŠB-Technical University Ostrava. He received his PhD in 2000 and has held research positions at leading international institutions, including the University of Tokyo.
His pioneering research focuses on advanced nanomaterials, including graphene derivatives and single-atom catalysts, for applications in energy, catalysis, biomedicine, and water treatment. Seminal achievements include developing the world’s thinnest insulator (fluorographene), room-temperature graphene-based magnets, and groundbreaking iron-based catalysts for green chemistry. His work has led to highly cited publications (h-index 131), several commercial technologies, and a clinical trial for cancer treatment.
A highly cited researcher and recipient of prestigious awards like the Werner von Siemens Award, Prof. Zbořil is also a key scientific leader, having secured over €80 million in grants and founding major research centers and conferences in Central Europe.
